Chaos Intensifies in Libya as Qaddafi Promises More Violence
Libya appeared to slip further into chaos today. In a rambling address, Col. Muammar el-Qaddafi vowed to "fight to the last drop of blood" and said those who challenge the government "deserve to die" (watch the video below). Clashes intensified in the capital, Tripoli. Meanwhile, opposition forces claimed control of a string of cities across nearly half of Libya's 1,000-mile Mediterranean coast.
Elected chairman of the African Union in February 2009, Qaddafi was once known by many Africans as a humanitarian, pouring large amounts of money into sub-Saharan states. It is safe to say that the ongoing atrocities in his country have wiped out any trace of a positive legacy this leader may have had.
