Earth to Congress: 50.7 Million People Uninsured
AOL News’ Andrea Stone wonders aloud if there is a magic number that will turn the tide of public opinion now arrayed against President Barack Obama and his health-care legislation. She ponders if it could be the latest dismal report on Americans without health-insurance coverage, which states that 50.7 million people are uninsured. This commentary comes on the heels of the Census Bureau's report that the ranks of uninsured people reached an all-time high, up from 15.4 percent in 2008 to 16.7 percent in 2009. Stone raises an interesting question, since so many people are angry with the president over the rate of unemployment. What about the uninsured? Will people be able to see that he is actually trying to change a dire situation? Possibly, but it seems that most of America is pretty comfortable blaming President Obama for the country's ills, and he seems pretty comfortable taking the fall. Whatever the case, something has to be done by Congress to address unemployment and the uninsured, or this country is in more trouble than one can imagine.
