Martin Lawrence Makes a TV Comeback

Martin Lawrence may be the saving grace of black TV, or not.  Yeah, I said "or not".  Lawrence is in development with three projects for TV.  The first is an animated comedy loosely based on Lawrence's pubescent years in D.C.  The other is a comedy based on the life of comedian Gary Owen.  It will follow the daily adventures of a white guy from a Trailer Park who marries an upwardly mobile black woman.  The third project is about a family that runs a funeral home.  Uh oh.  That means lots of dead people jokes.

Anyway, Martin Lawrence was number one in my book from his House Party, What's Happening Now and Do The Right Thing days.  He was funny, centered and the ham of all hams.  During his first seasons on Martin he was pure genius. The brother's timing was impeccable, his impersonations were deep, and the charm was addictive.  Lawrence's Jerome, Player of Players and Sheneneh were brilliant!  Now I'm not one to drag people through their mistakes and past troubles, but I just hope Lawrence brings back the genius of his early days to present-day TV.  And please, absolutely no buffoon-like crazy.

    sound like utter crap.

I think he should do a stand up show and release a DVD. It would do very well. But once you make it big - do you ever return to the stage? Look at Murphy and "delirious" - it launched him into the limelight, even though back then it was only cassette tapes and betamax! Martin Lawrence live on dvd. I'd buy that.

    And I couldn't help myself...

I put down my articles, books, and my laptop and replaced 'em with a bowl of popcorn and some diet root beer. Such a great series.

I'd be all for a BB3, especially if was as good as the first two.

I hope Martin's shows end up doing well. I kind of gave up on him after Black Knight, but I know he has talent. Just hope he uses it and, more importantly, that the networks LET him use it...

Martin, Yes, a genius of silliness and pure fun. I thought the Martin show was excellent at the time, until that last season. A great ensemble. I'm hoping that he can re create that same magic.

I miss Martin! Like, the before-he-got-thick version of Martin. Definitely up for Bad Boys 3!

I'm actually holding out hope for BB3 myself.

    I wouldn't mind a BB3!

    Bad Boys. Yes. Good stuff.
