Never be that Brother who brags, "I take care of my kids!" — raise your expectations — you're SUPPOSED to take care of your kids, and not just with things and money! Father's Day — whether it be for your own or another child — is EVERYDAY. Real men know and are sensitive to this. Being a real man is a lifelong duty and journey, without a day off, regular pats on the back, pretentious rewards, and sometimes without respect or help.

I must suggest an extremely insightful and riveting summer book for dads, moms and anyone seeking both real stimulation and information. Check-out 'Incognegro - A Memoir of Exile & Apartheid' by professor and social activist Frank B. Wilderson, III. He is also a winner of the Maya Angelou Award for Best Fiction Portaying the Black Experience in America, The Eisner Prize for Creative Achievement of the Highest Order, and a 2008 American Book Award.

So you ask, who in Hell is Frank B. Wilderson? During the last dangerous years of South African apartheid, Wilderson also earned the distinction of being one of the few African Americans who was an active and vocal member of the African National Congress (ANC) in South Africa, and who was also designated as "a threat to national security" by Nelson Mandela — go figure!

To quote from a review of the book (which I agree with): "A literary tour de force sure to spark fierce debate for years to come, Incognegro retells a story most Americans assume we already know, with sometimes awful, but ultimately essential clarity about global politics and our own lives."

Wilderson, who teaches African American studies and drama at the University of California (Irvine) is one of those writers under the radar and hype of the usual literary trash peddled toward Black readers today, and those who are interested in Black-related literature.

Drawing parallels between post-apartheid South Africa and post-civil rights (now Obama Era) America, 'Incognegro' has a fast-paced (sometimes funny) movie thriller feel written all over it — do you hear me Spike Lee, Samuel L Jackson, or somebody?

Incognegro: A Memoir of Exile & Apartheid

    ISBN: 978-0-89608-7830-5

I was able to tap my hustle skills and get this $18 book for only $9, and realized later I would have paid even more for it. Speaking of a book that breaks it down, makes it plain, and keeps it real — PICK THIS ONE UP!! — It is definitely not the Ludacris CD of the same name.
