    BET Awards: A Big Disappointment

On Sunday I decided to celebrate the music and the man by seeking out a MJ Dance Party in Brooklyn.  I went to Brooklyn's trendy The Yard and was beyond disappointed. Not only was the place swarming with non-diverse urbanites with strollers and beers and who couldn't dance if somebody moonwalked on their face, but the international-renowned DJ didn't have any Michael Jackson music. Not even Beat It.  Then I went over to a friend's to watch the BET Awards with the promise of a Michael Jackson tribute like no other. We sat there, food on lap, ready to dance and cry, but nothing. Except for Ne-Yo, New Edition, and Keke Palmer's heartfelt MJ renditions, BET'S special tribute to Michael Jackson was nothing special.

Let's start with Jamie Foxx.  The brother was spending way too much time being cocky and comical, by the time he sang "I'll Be There" at the end of the show I couldn't truly appreciate it.  And then there was Joe Jackson.  I couldn't understand why everyone kept sending out prayers to him and then separate prayers to his family.  Aren't they one in the same?  Reverend Al Sharpton?  Enough said.  But I nearly called the president when Lil Wayne jumped onto the stage rapping about sexing girls while 13-year-old girls were literally dancing on the stage as he rapped. Was that supposed to be some political statement? He did finish his number with a special thanks to Michael.  Was it just me, or did the BET Awards have way too much going on?

    Thoughts?

The information you posted about louis vuitton is so useful, I am expecting for your next post.

Nice articles, but I am not clear about the point you mentioned about how to distinguish fake and real louis vuitton.

You seem to be professional about louis vuitton, can you advise where to buy real louis vuitton?

958217833691753816461 Above this engine, the Dofus Kamas PCB teams develop extensions that allow, among Buy Dofus Kamas other things, to find Dofus Kamas Pas Cher.

I don't even understand why BET thought it made any sense to try to revamp an entire show in three days. Yes, tribute needed to be paid to a legendary icon, but it should have been done in a separate program where he could have gotten the recognition and RESPECT he deserved. The awards show this year, with the exception of very few artists, was a disgrace. Lil Wayne does exactly what he's expected to do, so why are we @ all surprised that he showed absolutely no common sense by bringing his own daughter on the stage during his performance of one of the more degrading songs he has in his arsenal.

Michael Jackson deserved much better & BET should rethink having anymore awards shows in the future. I, for one, will definitely rethink watching any of them.

A great idea but a failed presentation of what blacks want. And we wonder why blacks are still "stepping and fetching" for others entertainment. As long as the Joe Jacksons thrive like a metastasized cancer....there is no hope in sight.

The tribute to M.J. was a total disgrace. Regardless of what the circumstances may be, M.J. was entitled to be honored w/the up most sincerity, dignity and grace. His father disgust me, when his time comes all the prayers in the world won't overturn his fate. It is not a mystery, why M.J. was a unique character but despite all he faced and was accused of he still remained a shining star-to me. His children-God bless them, should go w/a family member who desires to nurture and care for them. If debbie doesn't desire to fulfill her role as a mother, they do not need to be placed w/her. How well do you think she will care for them? The problem w/Katherine taking on this role is her age, realistically she will not be around too much longer and say she lives another 20 yrs.,she will not be physically capable to fulfill her duty as their guardian. Another devastating event those children will have to endure, to lose another person they love, and look to for guidance. It is truly sad. The rest of the Jackson family need to take their head out of their own asses and stop being so self absorbed and protect those children.

She was singing Ave Maria- I sang it when I was confirmed at age 13 in church. It's sung in Catholic and Episcopal churches

Can't discuss what went on because I was indulges in npr radio. I don't have time for shenanigans and bad entertainment. Did anyone read the New York Times or LA Times about the 17 year old that was homeless all her life and received a full scholarship to Harvard? Yes, she is a sister and this story made Nat'l News, local News, and on Goodnews.com. You didn't hear it because you were too engrossed with MJ and BET

Do you expect BET to be anything other than a disappointing embarrassment? They haven't demonstrated that they're capable of being anything else.

Sorry folks. But with all that has been achieved...and all that is still ahead to be done....BET has become an absolute embarrassment to us all through their constant promotion of the very worst stereotypical portrayal of we as a people. Time to demand CEO Debra Lee be removed and replaced by someone who is truly on the side of progress.

Can we now all agree, as I have been saying for the last eleven years: BET is the abbreviation for Brain Empty Television. The huge potential that it had to become the premier example of African American TV news and entertainment excellence died before we reached the 21st century. Now, it is nothing more than a Sambotious icon of Black American culture. Last night's BET Awards show and there coming fall program lineup only affirms the obvious. TV One is not far behind.

No doubt, unnecessarily too many times, we can be our own worst enemy.
