I Exercised My Right to Vote Today, But . . .
I’ve been taking some heat from you other 9-5ers.
. . . that’s the only exercise I’ve had in about a week, though.
I know; I’m terrible. I’m trying. It’s just that my world has done a 180, and everything has to be rethought, from the best time to take a shower to what I’ll wear to work.
I forgot how time-consuming planning a work wardrobe can be. It’s not just the clothes: Ya gotta get the shoes right and the jewelry right and the nails right. This is so unfair. I say it’s a form of discrimination against women, and we should rise up and march on Washington to demand equal rights to untrimmed cuticles and belts that don’t match our shoes.
That is, if we could first not obsess about what we’d wear to such a march . . .
I am slowly getting back some extra minutes as I settle in to this new routine, but I’ve yet to find a way to work regular gym trips into my schedule without consistent transportation. Until a third car magically appears, I’m going to stick to walking and home workouts. With a kettlebell and a jump rope, there’s not much I can do wrong.
I’ve been taking some heat from you other 9-5ers, talking about “See, it’s hard to get to the gym now, ain’t it?” While I agree that it will take some juggling, there’s always time to get in some healthy exercise, so no, I’m not letting you off the hook that easily.
But yes, I can certainly relate. After work the last thing I want to do is go to a gym, but that’s because I’m somewhat of a morning person. Right now, my mornings are just . . . nutty. Most of the time I’m being dropped off because one of the kidlets needs my car for the day. What to do? Walk. In the evening. I swear, walking never feels like exercise – and I strongly dislike the word “exercise.” I’m talking about strolling, not huffing and puffing. Just walking at a nice, steady pace for however long you want – I’d say at least 45 minutes to an hour or more – and focusing on the positive.
Maybe it’s time for me to move the tougher stuff to the weekends. At least until we get that other car. I’m not sure if that’s at all helpful.
It would be good if I could hear from some of you weekend warriors.
