JIMI'S BLOG ROLL

    Sharpton Family Values

"Two wrongs don't make a civil right!"

After the Rev. Al Sharpton's ex and his daughter get arrested for running a red light to get past an unmarked police vehicle, color him perplexed. "How what was apparently a minor traffic dispute ended up with two arrests with desk-appearance tickets is highly questionable and unusual," said Mike Hardy, Sharpton's mouthpiece. "We will pursue all answers in this matter." Yeah, I bet.

Looks like the good reverend would do good to teach his people how to behave when dealing with the police. I wouldn't think dropping Al Sharpton's name in any precinct in New York City would win you many friends. Sharpton's people could have caused an accident, and should pay their fine and apologize to the NYPD. But instead of encouraging them to apologize --because apologies aren't really his strong suit -- I wonder if Sharpton will find yet another racial injustice.

Do you think these young ladies were singled out? Or do you think they owe the police and the community an apology for reckless driving?

As I said in my comment, ...maybe I didn't read far enough... so I have to say now that I was wrong.
There shouldn't be a "racial slur" on any website, much less on a police sponsored one.

Unfortunately (and it's no excuse) the Sharpton's attitude of being the victim doesn't do a thing to further relationships between all of us. When you do wrong, you admit it and be responsible for your words and/or actions. It can't always be the other guy's fault.

    Just MHO

Chippie8323 You must have not looked at the same story and comments I saw posted on policelink. If you did you would have seen Sharptons family called whores, Sharpton called a racist A##hole and a dumba##. A## clown, moron, hypocrite and on and on.
This is a police website. I'm sorry but that concerns me. The people in these forums seem to be letting their true feelings explode as they hide behind the anonymity of their profiles...

First, This is a cut and dry story. Its stupid to 'argue' with cops and seeing as how they're supposedly 'adults' and of the African American persuasion, they shouldve known that. Especially when its appears they broke the law.

Secondly, its stupid to run red lights. This is an obvious safety issue. If they'd run that red light and got into a collision that killed someone, or were themselves killed, then what?

Thirdly, the name-dropping on the part of the daughter, was pretty lame. Because if her name was REALLY all that meaningful, it wouldn't have to be 'dropped' and they'd have gotten off. Again, just dumb.

So yes, they got what they deserved.

Post a comment supporting hatred for cops and you get top billing.
Post a comment that criticizes racism on both sides of an issue and you get deleted.

I followed the link you posted. The first two pages of comments addressed the fact that Al's daughter and ex seemed to think they deserve a free ride for violating the law. Maybe if I had read another 5 or 6 pages I could have found the hateful heart comments you mentioned. As I said in another post, if you'd ever visited the scene of a collision where someone had run a read light, you wouldn't be questioning the actions of the police. Police get real tired of hearing how they're the bad guys no matter what the situation. It's always fascinating to me how millions of people of color drive every day and every night with no problems. Could obeying the laws of the land have something to do with that?

that was the story i was able to find pretty much everywhere i found it. i don't always trust what i read and don't put it past the police that they may have made a mountain out of a mole hill, but i guess we will all have to wait and see how the whole thing plays out.

like you say though, arguing with them is always a mistake.

The police website policelink.com posted this story. The followup comments by the website members there are some of the most vile, hateful and venemous hatespeech you can imagine. And these are mostly police officers. It is frightening to think about officers with this kind of hate in their hearts

beej said...if that's the actual truth...then the ladies were wrong. Just because someone is driving too slow (and trust me...I've been behind too slow driving folks and wanted to smash into the back of their car...but didn't) doesn't mean you go over a double yellow line and run a red light. Sorry, ladies...you should have taken the ticket for running the red and then tried to fight it in court. I'm sure the officer wouldn't have bothered showing up and it would have been thrown out anyway. But arguing with the officer got you a whole lot more trouble than just a ticket for running a red.

Note to everyone: Don't tailgate police cars (even the unmarked ones...you can still spot those suckers most times if you pay attention)...and then run red lights in front of them. You will get a ticket...LOL.

    SMH@ some of these drivers...
