(The Root) — A verdict was handed down in the controversial George Zimmerman trial tonight, a little sooner than some hoped and expected.
The jury of six women found George Zimmerman not guilty of second-degree murder or manslaughter in the shooting death of unarmed teenager Trayvon Martin. The case has captivated the attention of the nation both online and off.
Naturally, the verdict hit supporters of Trayvon Martin and his family like a ton of bricks, and they quickly took to Twitter to express their anger, sadness, hopelessness and shock. Tracy Martin, Trayvon’s father, also tweeted a response to the verdict.
