President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama held their last state dinner Tuesday night, with Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi and his wife, Agnese Landini, as their guests.
The first lady’s dress was the talk of the event, as she literally dazzled when cameras flashed in a rose-gold chain mail gown by Italian designer Versace. Of course, the president looked dapper as ever in his well-tailored tuxedo and bow tie.
Tuesday night’s state dinner was the president’s 13th and last, and he toasted attendees on the White House lawn.
“Buona sera [Good evening]. Welcome to the White House and the final state dinner of my presidency,” he said. “But in the immortal words of a great Italian American, Yogi Berra, ‘It ain’t over till it’s over.’”
And when it’s over, tears will be shed.
Four hundred guests attended the dinner, making it the largest state dinner yet. Guests included Chance the Rapper, Frank Ocean, Jerry Seinfeld, Gwen Stefani, James Taylor, Mario Batali, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and actor Roberto Benigni.
