(The Root) — The nation gasped in unison when University of Louisville basketball player Kevin Ware snapped his leg in two on the court during the team’s March Madness game with Duke last month. Since then, Ware has received a tidal wave of support, winning spots on talk shows and thousands of new followers on Twitter.

But the Bronx, N.Y., native recently left Twitter after an apparent tangle with TMZ. During his trip to Washington, D.C., for the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, a TMZ reporter asked him a few questions; the story that TMZ ran focused solely on a question about his sex life. Ware announced his exit from Twitter after the story ran and blamed it on “losers like TMZ.”

And it’s not just Ware who left the social network; a team rule reportedly bans players from using it.
