Jamie Foxx helped a driver escape a burning truck that had tumbled over multiple times after careening from a California road and into a drainage ditch, CNN reports

The 32-year-old man’s name is Brett Kyle, and he ended up on the passenger side of the truck after the accident in Ventura County Monday night. Foxx, who lives nearby, rushed to the scene.

“As I’m getting him out, I said, ‘You’ve got to help me get you out because I don’t want to have to leave you,’ ” Foxx told CNN affiliate KCAL. “I said, ‘You’ve angels around you.’ “

Kyle had to be cut out of his seat belt by Foxx and an off-duty EMT. Foxx is being praised for his heroism, but he’s being modest about such labels.

“I don’t look at it as heroic. I just look at it as you just had to do something,” Foxx told KCAL. “It all worked out.”

The firefighters said that when they arrived, the truck was completely on fire.

“When fire crews arrived on scene just one minute later, they reported the vehicle as fully involved in fire,” Ventura County Fire Department spokesman Capt. Mike Lindbery told CNN. “The patient was taken to the hospital with burn injuries. There was no one else in the truck.

“It was a pretty courageous thing to do,” Lindbery added. “It’s rare these days that you find someone willing to jump in to help like that.”

Kyle’s father was interviewed by a local affiliate and was emotional as he described how grateful he was to Foxx for saving his son’s life. Foxx put up a post about their meeting on Instagram.
