T.I. Talks Business About ‘Boss’

TCA 2012: The Atlanta rapper's TV side hustle allows him to surprise viewers with his acting chops.

(The Root) — Clifford “T.I.” Harris‘ new reality show is a scripted drama on Starz. Harris, best known as one of the architects of Dirty South hip-hop, has been cast as a reformed gangbanger in Kelsey Grammer’s gritty political drama, Boss.

“I’m just really blessed to work with all of these accomplished actors,” Harris said during an interview at the Television Critics Association press tour. “Kelsey went to Juilliard, and Sanaa [Lathan] is a trained actress, too. The cool thing is that I feel like they’re respecting my ability, too.”

Harris talked about his role, his awe of Will Smith and Queen Latifah and how his approach to acting differs from his musical approach during an exclusive interview with The Root.

Boss begins its second season on Aug. 17 at 9 p.m. ET.
