President Obama Endorses Dante de Blasio's Hairstyle

The president admits that Dante's Afro is better than his was.

Earlier this week, President Barack Obama gave a spirited endorsement of Bill de Blasio, who is running for mayor of New York City. In a statement released by the de Blasio campaign, Obama said that the Democractic nominee would make "a great mayor."

On Tuesday, at a Democratic National Committee fundraiser in New York City, the president once again gave his support to de Blasio, introducing him as "the next mayor of New York City." But Obama gave another endorsement, this time to de Blasio's 16-year-old son, Dante, and the Afro that has arguably taken the city by storm. From the New York Times:

"His son, Dante, who has the same hairdo as I had in 1978," Mr. Obama said, according to a pool reporter at the event, which was held at the Waldorf-Astoria. "Although I have to confess my Afro was never that good. It was a little imbalanced." Everyone laughed.

Dante's hair continues to be a talking point in the New York City mayoral election, if for no other reason than to lighten the mood. Many believe that the striking style made a positive, indelible impression when it first appeared in a televised campaign spot, and it has even stirred up some controversy
