Allstate exec announces $150,000 in HBCU scholarships: The company has partnered with the Tom Joyner Foundation to raise money to support scholarships for students attending HBCUs. The fourth-annual Quotes for Education initiative launched on Aug. 1 and will run through Dec. 31, 2012.
Jordan and NBA players to raise money for Obama: The Obama campaign is planning a fundraising “shootaround” and dinner in New York on Aug. 22, featuring NBA stars including Carmelo Anthony, Rajon Rondo and John Wall . Jordan — who played for the Chicago Bulls, Obama’s favorite NBA team — and NBA Commissioner David Stern are co-hosting a $20,000-per-person fundraising dinner with the president later in the day, BlackAmericaWeb reports.
