U.S. to halve its Embassy in Iraq: The $750 million U.S. Embassy in Baghdad is home to 16,000 staff and carries a $6 billion price tag annually -- and it's about to get slashed in half in the wake of U.S. troops' departure, reports the New York Times.

Activists with HIV unfairly prosecuted? Legal experts, medical providers and AIDS activists will hold a press conference today on the case of several HIV-positive people and activists who were arrested in April at a demonstration against Republican cuts to AIDS funding and a ban on syringe-exchange funding in D.C. The activists were arrested the same day as Mayor Vincent Gray and Council Chairman Brown -- who were protesting the same Republican budget "riders" that hurt District residents and sovereignty -- but face much harsher sentences.
