'GOP Is the New Black' Billboard Targets African Americans

Someone is clearly in need of a history lesson.

Raging Elephants' "GOP Is the New Black" Billboard

A billboard sponsored by the Raging Elephants and stating, "G.O.P. Is the New Black," is posted in Houston. If the GOP is the "new black," then the Raging Elephants must be the "new wack," since blacks have been Republicans since the founding of the party. Perhaps they should change their name to Raging Bull, because that sums up this billboard. The unmitigated gall to pretend that being a black Republican is something new. Frederick Douglass, Mary McLeod Bethune, Ida B. Wells, Blanche Bruce, Booker T. Washington, Mary Terrell, A. Philip Randolph, Harriett Tubman, Sammy Davis Jr., Lynn Swann, Tony Dorsett, James Brown, J.C. Watts, Dr. Mildred Jefferson -- we could go on, but we'll stop. The ad is laughable and appalling simultaneously, which is usually hard to accomplish. Shaking our heads over here at The Root.
