Renaissance 2010 is supposed to be a policy initiative to help Chicago's school kids. But does it?


Renaissance 2010 shuts down underperforming Chicago schools and turns them around through contract or charter school. In the turnaround process, lots of experienced teachers get the pink slip. Many of those slipped are Black women.

This was Secretary of Education Duncan's baby when he was CEO of Chicago public schools. He's trying to take this initiative country-wide.

Does it do more harm than good? Chicago's teachers' union thinks so.
