  • Bio:

As the second child in a famous music-business family, Solange Knowles, known simply as Solange, is certainly "Brooklyn" (where she lives half of the year) as much as her famous sister is "Manhattan." Solange, who is best-known as an alt-hipster-au-natural artist du jour, has continued to elevate her profile by making her customary appearances at Fashion Week and gracing hip magazine covers the world over (see Brooklyn, South African Elle, Fader and Complex this summer). Her bold fashion sense, big natural hair and fabulous mydamnblog page have earned the singer-songwriter a legion of dedicated, artistically inclined fans (and nearly 1.7 million Twitter followers). She is a music-festival darling, and often works with like-minded artists, including Janelle Monáe, on whose "Electric Lady" title track she appears this fall. Ostensibly to tie it all together, Solange started her own Saint Records to be distributed by Sony this year.

  • Fun Fact: In 2002, Solange lent her voice to the character Chanel, the cousin of Penny Proud, in the animated TV series The Proud Family.
