Her latest offering, Being Mary Jane, starring Gabrielle Union, debuted on the network with an audience of 4 million viewers, and will be on weekly at the top of next year. "I wanted to show regular, everyday emotions that you haven't seen through a black woman's point of view on television," says Brock Akil. She and her husband, director Salim Akil, have signed a multiyear development deal with BET, and their pilot with fitness trainer and life coach Jeanette Jenkins is currently in production.
