Thanks to Beverly Bond no one can deny that black girls do in fact "rock!" Created as a counterbalance to the not-so-positive images teenage girls of color often experience in hip-hop music and videos, Black Girls Rock! is a youth-empowerment organization founded by Bond, a former model and DJ. This November, BET will host the eighth annual Black Girls Rock! Awards, a star-studded event created in collaboration with Bond and BET director of programming Stephen Hill. The awards show is a fundraiser meant to honor women who are making a difference.
