  • Bio: Van Jones makes our list this year for his continued political activism. Last year he launched the Rebuild the Dream campaign, a progressive answer to the Tea Party. During its kickoff event, he said he hoped for it to be a movement "with no superhero, no single leader, no messiah ... just the American people standing up for the best values of the country." Earlier this year he released Rebuild the Dream, a memoir-manifesto about his 2009 stint as President Barack Obama's "green-jobs czar" and plans for rebuilding belief in America's economy. Touching on his continued political transformation, he told The Root that he encourages people to ask themselves, "What was I learning?" instead of "What was I thinking?" when reflecting on mistakes. Before joining the White House, he co-founded the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights, ColorOfChange.org and Green for All.
