  • Ta-Nehisi Coates

  • Senior editor at the Atlantic and one of the most prolific black bloggers of the year.
  • Job: Journalist and author
  • Sector: Entertainment/Media
  • Location: New York City
  • Age: 37
  • Bio: On an August 2012 segment of Chris Hayes' MSNBC show, Up With Chris Hayes, Melissa Harris-Perry accurately described Coates' writing as "seductive" during a discussion of what was at the time his most recent piece for the Atlantic, "Fear of a Black President." The brilliant 9,000-plus-word opus, a challenging read about President Barack Obama's odd political dance with race, perfectly illuminates Coates' ability to tackle complicated ideas and express ingenious analysis with beautiful prose. But what makes Coates most influential is that his expertise isn't limited to politics. On his blog, he muses about race, black culture, sports and all of the possible intersections that lie in between.
