  • Bio: Halfway through his first term, Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed has emerged as one of President Barack Obama's most prominent surrogates in 2012, regularly making the rounds on Sunday news programs and hosting high-profile fundraisers. He's also credited with improving Atlanta's public services, bolstering the city's financial position and bridging racial divides. Among the Democratic Party's "New Guard," Mayor Reed spent 11 years in the state legislature before succeeding two-term Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin, for whom he served as campaign manager. A graduate of Howard University, he has earned praise from leaders on both sides of the aisle in Georgia for his pragmatic, bipartisan approach. In May, Reed became the first mayor to receive the Great American Award from the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies. Two months later, he received the 2012 Distinguished Leaders Award from the National Forum for Black Public Administrators. Like his Facebook page.
