She has also spearheaded efforts to diversify the membership and increase the media presence of the National Wildlife Federation, the nation's largest conservation organization. "NWF's membership base has primarily consisted of older, white, middle-class individuals," she told The Root. "Our country's demographics are changing, and if we fail to reach young people and communities of color we will fail to be relevant 40 years from now." She is also a co-founder of the Fighting Injustice to Reach Equality initiative, which works to eliminate the social, health and economic disparities faced by lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people of color.
