According to police reports seen by the news station, Garrett Anderson, 23, of Kennesaw, called for a locksmith after being locked out his car. The locksmith, Tansu Kanlica, 27, of Atlanta, arrived and got Anderson back into his vehicle. Then, instead of paying the $175 fee, Anderson took off. Police believe that Kanlica was chasing Anderson for the stiffed payment when the crash took place. Both men fled the scene but were arrested not far from where the incident occurred.

Kanlica was charged by Cobb County Police with "failure to maintain lane, reckless driving, two counts of serious injury by vehicle, hit-and-run resulting in injury, and first-degree homicide by vehicle."

Anderson was also charged with multiple counts, including "theft of services, reckless driving, two counts of serious injury by vehicle and first-degree homicide by vehicle."
