Westland, Mich., police have arrested three suspects for the assault of white Army veteran Adam Wagner, WJBK Fox 2 reports. On April 3, Wagner was outside a 7-Eleven when the group of men noticed his military ID and started making offensive comments about him and the military.
“They were saying, ‘How can you be in the military when they let black people in the military?’ They used the n-word, saying [he] was a [n–ger] lover,” his girlfriend, Angela Deguise, told Fox 2.
“I took pretty, pretty good offense to that because my best friend in the Army was black. He saved my life,” Wagner said.
At that point the men started kicking and punching him. “I got to ground and I went straight to the fetal position, covering my eardrums and as much as I could of my face,” Wagner said. After the suspects ran away, he managed to get help from a neighbor who called the police. He suffered a broken nose, head injuries and lacerations to his face and mouth, the news site reports.
Earlier reports described the suspects as being white men in their 20s with shaved heads.
