Michelle Obama Calls Michael Sam an ‘Inspiration to All of Us’

The first lady sent out an encouraging message to the athlete who may become the first “out” active football player in the NFL.

Michelle Obama is once again standing behind gay athletes, this time calling University of Missouri football player Michael Sam "an inspiration to all of us" in light of his coming out on Sunday.

The first lady sent the message from her official Twitter account:

Vice President Joe Biden also showed his support, sending out a signed tweet as well: 

Sam responded to the first lady's tweet by thanking her for her support: 

An All-American NFL prospect, Sam could become the first openly gay active football player in the NFL if selected for the league's draft in May, for which many consider him a shoo-in.
