Michael Dunn was charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of 17-year-old Jordan Davis, but a judge declared a mistrial late Saturday after the jury failed to reach an agreement on the charge. Dunn was found guilty on three counts of attempted murder and one for firing into an occupied vehicle.

Florida State Attorney Angela Corey held a news conference immediately after the disquieting verdict. She plans to vigorously pursue the first-degree murder charge in a retrial, saying her office "does not back off."

“We have to retry cases,” she said in response to a question about having to retry the first-degree murder charge. “We had a whole slew of cases when the Supreme Court changed the manslaughter instruction. We had to retry several homicide cases. We just get ready and come back into court, work just as hard and we seek justice in the same way. Retrying a case is something that we’ve had to do and will continue to have to do. And will give it the same full attention. We don’t back off trying to retry,” she said.
