Where is Lil Za when Justin Bieber needs him?
On Thursday the controversial crooner of top 40 pop ballads was arrested in Miami Beach for drag racing with his yellow Lamborghini and failing a sobriety test earlier that day, the Associated Press reports.
The 19-year-old singer’s arrest was confirmed in a tweet from the Miami Beach Police Department’s official account.
According to AP, officers saw two cars racing on a palm-tree-lined residential area in mid-Miami Beach at 4:09 a.m. Thursday. Along one side of the street are small apartment buildings, and on the other side are a high school, a youth center, a golf course and a city firehouse. Miami Dade-Police spokesman Sgt. Bobby Hernandez told WSVN in South Florida that the second car was a red Ferrari, and that driver was also arrested. Both cars were towed, AP reports.
Bieber failed a field sobriety test and was taken to the Miami Beach police station for a Breathalyzer and processing. He will be transported to the Miami-Dade County jail, Hernandez told AP.
Although no information has been released as to how much alcohol Bieber had in his system, under Florida law, people under the age of 21 are considered driving under the influence if they have a blood-alcohol content of .02 percent or more—a level he could reach with one drink, AP reports.
Bieber could be looking at a maximum sentence of six months and a fine of $250 to $500, as well as 50 hours of community service for his DUI, which also carries an automatic six-month license suspension because he is under 21. For drag racing, his sentence could range up to six months, a fine of $500 to $1,000 and a one-year license suspension.
Earlier this month, detectives were called to Bieber’s gated community in Calabasas, Calif., after reports that the singer was involved in a vicious egging of a neighbor’s house that caused thousands of dollars in damage. After searching Bieber’s home for surveillance footage that might serve as evidence, authorities found drugs and arrested one member of Bieber’s entourage on suspicion of drug possession: Lil Za, a rapper whose real name is Xavier Smith, AP reports.
