Boxer Evander Holyfield may regret his comments once he leaves the Big Brother house after claiming that being gay is no different than being handicapped…because a doctor can fix both, TMZ reports.
The retired boxer is a housemate on the UK show, Celebrity Big Brother after being asked by houseguest Luisa Zissman if there were any gay boxers, Holyfield began to stutter. Then Zissman declares that openness about sexuality was good “because it was normal,” the Daily Mail reports.
To which Holyfield replied: “that ain’t normal.” The 51-year-old then added, “If you were born and your leg were turned this way – what would you do? You go to the doctor and get it fixed back, right? All I’m trying to tell you, you know how handicap people are born.”
Luisa tells him you can’t fix homosexuality but Holyfield continues to explain his position.
“Shame,” Boy George tweeted after hearing Holyfield’s comments. “I had such admiration for Mr. Evander Holyfield, he seemed dignified and I was sure he was a cool, smart, giant!”
According to TMZ, Big Brother producers called Holyfield into the Diary Room where each contestant talks one-on-one with producers of the show. He was scolded for his comments and told that his views offended many people.
Holyfield did not apologize and explained he was just trying to share his opinion. He is currently up for eviction after failing to complete a series of challenges on the show.
