Fans of ABC’s Scandal will have to make do with four fewer episodes this season.
Yes, it’s a scandal for acolytes of the stylishly smart and transgressive Olivia Pope character, but there’s likely a good reason. Although the network did not offer an explanation for why it will broadcast 18 instead of 22 episodes, the Associated Press reports, the news comes on the heels of a recent announcement that the star, Kerry Washington, and her football player husband, Nnamdi Asomugha, are expecting a baby.
The shortened schedule will end production early for the show’s pregnant star, who has garnered widespread praise for her role as Pope. After Thursday’s episode, the report shows, Scandal will take a brief hiatus before returning in late February with the final episodes of the season.
