Comedian Jon Stewart had a field day Tuesday, poking fun at the American media and others for blowing the handshake between President Barack Obama and Cuban President Raúl Castro out of proportion.

"Barack Obama [was] at a memorial celebrating the life of Nelson Mandela, a man whose legacy is that he forgave and embraced his foes and tormentors and thus inspired his country to a national and democratic rebirth. Attending that, Obama had the audacity to greet another world leader with a gesture so meaningless, you can teach a basset hound to do it. What the f--k is wrong with us?" Stewart asked on his show.

To take things a bit further, Arizona Republican Sen. John McCain actually compared the gesture to British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain’s handshake with Adolf Hitler in 1938.

Stewart jokingly reminded the senator that Raúl Castro was nothing like Hitler.

"Raúl Castro is not even Fidel Castro," Stewart quipped.

Marveling at the uproar, Stewart ended the segment by asking sarcastically, "What more fitting tribute could there be to Nelson Mandela, a man so dedicated to forgiveness he invited his own captor to his inauguration, than for our country to lose our s--t over a handshake?"
