Here's the news from Beyoncé's Thursday press conference: She lip-synched "The Star-Spangled Banner" (or "sang along with [her] prerecorded track"), she says she did it because she's a perfectionist and she promises that we'll hear her live at Super Bowl halftime.

Oh, and she might just be as talented at packaging a response to critics as she is at musical performance. From the Washington Post:

Beyonce walked onto the stage for her Super Bowl XLVII press conference and asked everyone to rise.

She then belted out a stunning a cappella rendition of the national anthem and, when she was finished, faced the music with a saucy little quip: "Any questions?"

Game, set, match, Beyonce.

After the laughter died down, she admitted that she did not perform "The Star-Spangled Banner" live at the inauguration of President Obama on Jan. 21.

"I am a perfectionist," she said, "and one thing about me: I practice ’til my feet bleed. I did not have time to rehearse with the orchestra. It was a live television show ... Due to the weather, due to the [sound] delay, due to no proper sound check ... I did not feel comfortable singing live. It was about the president and the inauguration and I decided to sing along with my prerecorded track. I’m very proud of my performance."

She closed by saying she's "absolutely singing live" at her upcoming Super Bowl halftime performance.
