MHP: Shirley Sherrod on 'The Courage to Hope'

MSNBC host Melissa Harris-Perry and Sherrod on how blacks have lost ties to civil rights history.

MSNBC host Melissa Harris-Perry and her guest Shirley Sherrod, former Georgia state director of rural development for the United States, discussed why African Americans have perhaps lost a connection to the history of civil rights. In Sherrod's new book The Courage to Hope: How I Stood Up to the Politics of Fear, she details her upbringing, her father's death at the hands of a white man who was never brought to justice and her legacy in the struggle for human rights in America, in addition to her firing thanks to the late right-wing blogger Andrew Breitbart.
