The New York Daily News reports that hip-hop mogul Chris Lighty has died at his Bronx apartment at age 44 after shooting himself following an argument with his ex-wife.

Law enforcement sources said Lighty -- who divorced his wife last year -- may have been dealing with financial struggles, including owing about $5 million to the IRS ...

"R.I.P. Chris Lighty," posted Fat Joe on his Twitter account. "That man saved my life."

"We are extremely shocked and sadden by this tragic news," said Larry Mestel, CEO of Primary Wave Music. "Chris was a friend, business partner and most of all, an icon, role model and true legend of the music and entertainment industry. He will be missed by many and we send love and support to his family."
