(The Root) -- New York City's controversial stop-and-frisk policy, which allows police to stop pedestrians and forcibly search their bodies for weapons, is at the center of a national debate about whether or not the practice targets minorities unfairly.

"Between those who get stopped, those who know someone who got stopped and those who read about racial disparities in the newspaper, the program erodes trust in police officers and destroys the valuable relationships between officers and the communities they serve," NAACP President Benjamin Todd Jealous wrote on Thursday.

As the NAACP and New York City officials put pressure on the Justice Department to investigate the practice, we want to hear from you. Have you been wrongfully stopped and frisked? Have you been targeted by the police unfairly?

If you have a story you'd like to share, pull out your phone and shoot a video telling us about the incident. Upload the video to our Facebook page, along with your name and the date, city and state where you were stopped and frisked. We'll select a few submissions for a feature on The Root.
