President Obama created a historic precedent by declaring his support of gay marriage this week. Culture vlogger Jay Smooth of Illdoctrine.com argues that it was pressure from the left that created the culture for Obama's announcement. Because LGBT and left-wing activists "held his feet to the fire," Smooth says, Obama was encouraged to support marriage equality. His announcement is also evidence that all facets of activism and accountability can work together for the progression of civil rights.
