Watch This: Trayvon Grand Jury Unnecessary

A legal expert weighs in on the significance of the Florida State Attorney Angela Corey's decision to forgo this step.

On Tuesday, the 44th day with no arrest since Trayvon Martin was killed by George Zimmerman, ABC News legal analyst Dan Abrams talked to Good Morning America host Robin Roberts about Florida State Attorney Angela Corey's decision not to convene a grand jury.

Is that bad news for those who are waiting for justice, in the form of charges against Zimmerman? Not necessarily, according to Abrams.

"Remember," he said, "this special prosecutor said from the beginning that she might not want a grand jury."

"Typically," he explained, "you want the grand jury in Florida for political cover. You don't need it; you can use it. In some states they don't have them at all; in other states it's required. In Florida you get to choose if you're the prosecutor.”
