Melissa Harris-Perry's MSNBC show to debut Sunday: She left Princeton for Tulane in 2010 after the department of American studies there declined to make her a full professor, but who knew an even bigger career move was in store? Now, in addition to teaching, the frequent MSNBC contributor will host her own program, becoming one of very few African-American women to hold down a cable-news slot. She talked to the New York Times about discovering how powerful television can be.

Oprah announces plans to honor Whitney Houston: OWN will broadcast a two-hour special title, Remembering Whitney: The Oprah Interview, set to air Thursday night during prime time. As the title indicates, the special will be a reairing of Oprah's 2009 interview with Houston.
