The selling of President Obama’s jobs plan continues. As part of a multitiered effort to get the goals of the American Jobs Act out, on Thursday the Democratic National Committee began airing a radio ad specifically geared to urban stations in the key markets of Orlando and Tampa, Fla.; Las Vegas; and Cleveland and Columbus, Ohio.
Pulling excerpts from his recent speech before a joint session of Congress, in the spot the president stresses that unemployed Americans can’t afford for politicians to do nothing and just resolve their differences at the ballot box next November.
“Pass this bill, and hundreds of thousands of disadvantaged young people will have the hope and the dignity of a summer job next year,” Obama says in the ad, referencing the bill’s funds for summer jobs programs for low-income youths. “And their parents, low-income Americans who desperately want to work, will have more ladders out of poverty.”
The ad comes on the heels of the DNC’s rollout of television spots about the bill, as well as a new website, americanjobsact.com, touting the legislation and allowing people to add their names in support.
“The next election is 14 months away, and right now there is nothing more important to the African-American community and all Americans than putting more Americans back to work and ensuring more middle-class Americans and small businesses have the money they need to provide for their families,” said DNC National Press Secretary Melanie Roussell. “There is no time to waste, and the time for Congress to act is now.”
