VIDEO: Sapphire Introduces 'Push' Sequel, 'The Kid'

This time, we'll only see Precious through the eyes of her 9-year-old son.


At the end of Precious, the 2009 movie adaptation of Sapphire's novel Push, the main character has become a mother. Here, the author talks about her second novel, The Kid (Viking, released Tuesday), which begins on the day of Precious's funeral and focuses on the story of her 9-year-old son, Abdul.

Answering five questions about her latest work for USA Today, she says the book addresses some of the same socioeconomic issues as its predecessor, and that she wouldn't rule out seeing it on the big screen.
