With gasoline prices approaching $4 a gallon, cleaner, greener cars may be good for the wallet as well as the environment. The Washington, D.C.-based advocacy group Union of Concerned Scientists is hiring a clean-vehicles national outreach coordinator (link).

The person in this position will create and implement campaigns to focus attention on the need to manufacture more environmentally friendly cars and other forms of transportation. Priorities will include working with activists, experts and organizational partners; coming up with tactics to organize online and on the ground; recruiting volunteers, consultants and interns; and representing the Union of Concerned Scientists at public forums and events.

The successful candidate will have three to five years' experience organizing and strategizing grassroots campaigns, directing online marketing and coordinating outreach events.

Applications will be accepted until Sept. 2 or the position is filled.
