Sarah Muller of MSNBC is reporting that a protester dumped a bunch of glitter on Newt Gingrich and his wife, Callista, last night at a book signing in Minneapolis. The man approached the couple during the event at a downtown-Minneapolis hotel and showered the rainbow-colored confetti on the pair. Muller reports, "He then yelled, 'Stop the hate' and 'Feel the rainbow,' presumably a nod to gay rights."

Gingrich apparently wiped off the table and said, "Nice to live in a free country" while the prankster was escorted out of the room. The Huffington Post is reporting that the prankster may have been Nick Espinosa, a prankster who has disrupted at least two other political events in Minnesota, including one in which he dumped a bagful of pennies in the lap of a Republican candidate for governor last year.

Espinosa emailed reporters later Tuesday and attached pictures of the confetti attack. He said it was a protest against a proposal to amend Minnesota's Constitution to ban gay marriage.

Seriously? Dumping glitter on Gingrich and his wife is not a good look. All it does is make the activist look crazy. Sure, Gingrich's ideas about LGBTQ issues are worthy of protest, but pranks won't get it.
