British supermodel Naomi Campbell has rallied support in her beef with U.K. candy giant Cadbury after the company compared her to its Bliss chocolate bar in a new advertisement, the Independent reports.
Campbell reportedly plans to take action against Cadbury, a subsidiary of Kraft Foods, because the company initially refused to stop running the ad, which reads, “Move over Naomi, there’s a new diva in town.” The British political group Operation Black Vote has also taken the offensive against Cadbury, even attempting to rally support against the company stateside by reaching out to powerhouse civil rights figures Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson.
Campbell, whose high-profile assaults may have inspired the advertisement, has been vocal against Cadbury. “I am shocked. It’s upsetting to be described as chocolate, not just for me, but for all black women and black people,” she said. “I do not find any humour in this. It is insulting and hurtful.”
While Cadbury describes the ad as “lighthearted,” the company has pulled the ad campaign indefinitely.
The controversy comes a week after Unilever came under attack for what many considered a racially insensitive ad for Dove Visible Care body wash.
