Libya Announces Cease-Fire

Foreign minister says the move "will take the country back to safety."

The Associated Press is reporting that, the day after the U.N. vote to authorize a no-fly zone and "all necessary measures" to protect the Libyan people, Libyan Foreign Minister Moussa Koussa has announced that the country is declaring an immediate cease-fire and will stop all military operations.

"[Libya] takes great interest in protecting civilians," he said, adding that the country would also protect all foreigners and foreign assets in Libya.

He was critical of the U.N.'s actions yesterday, calling them a violation of Libya's sovereignty, but assured that the cease-fire would "take the country back to safety." For the sake of the Libyan people, we hope he's right.
