Valentine’s Day: First Lady Obama Offers Words of Wisdom

Michelle Obama says that laughter is the key to a happy marriage.

In response to a question from an Associated Press reporter about the first couple’s strong union, first lady Michelle Obama responded, “I think it’s a lot of laughter.” She continued, “I think in our house we don’t take ourselves too seriously, and laughter is the best form of unity, I think, in a marriage. So we still find ways to have fun together, and a lot of it is private and personal. But we keep each other smiling and that’s good,” she added.

The president and Mrs. Obama have been married 19 years, have two children and have survived several high-profile political campaigns — an inordinate amount of stress that would test even the strongest marriages. They have survived and continue to thrive as a couple. Mrs. Obama added on Live With Regis and Kelly that you’ve “got to keep the romance alive, even in the White House.

If the president and Mrs. Obama can manage to keep a marriage together and romance in the White House with all that they have to manage, then the rest of us should also be able to make it happen.
