Idris Elba received a 2011 Golden Globe nod for his role in "Luther."

Awards season is officially here. In addition to the BET Honors this weekend, the 2011 Golden Globe Awards will air live on NBC on Sunday, Jan. 16, at 8 p.m. ET. Halle Berry and Idris Elba both received nods this year. Berry was nominated in the best actress category for her role in the upcoming film Frankie and Alice, and Elba was selected for his work in the BBC America drama Luther.

Berry and Elba face stiff competition in both categories. Berry will compete for best actress against Nicole Kidman for the grieving-parent tale Rabbit Hole, Jennifer Lawrence for the Ozarks crime film Winter's Bone, Natalie Portman for Black Swan and Michelle Williams for Blue Valentine. Elba is nominated for best actor in a miniseries or movie. He will compete against Ian McShane of Pillars of the Earth, Al Pacino for You Don't Know Jack, Dennis Quaid for The Special Relationship and Edgar Ramirez for Carlos.

Thankfully, Berry has been here before, so we're pulling for first-time nominee Elba because of his brilliant work on the BBC's Luther, especially since he was never nominated for his amazing work on HBO's seminal show The Wire. Bring it home, Stringer Bell.
