NBC has officially pulled the plug on Undercovers, starring Boris Kodjoe and Guba Mbatha-Raw as married spies. The television drama was canceled after the show consistently produced dismal ratings. Its recent airing brought out a 1.3 rating in the 18-to-49 age demo. While the show is still filming its 12th episode, NBC will not commit to anything past its original 13-episode order. Produced by J.J. Abrams, the show made headlines as it featured two black actors (Boris Kodjoe and Guba Mbatha-Raw) as the leads. From the start, Undercovers never got off the ground running, with its first episode generating a 2.0/6 share, with fewer than 10 million viewers watching. While other NBC freshmen shows, such as the Blair Underwood series The Event, were given a full-season commitment, the best Undercovers could get was an order for four additional scripts. Its committed episodes will air on Nov. 10, Nov. 17 and Dec. 1. It joins the cancellation of Jimmy Smits' legal drama Outlaw. When you're black and brown, you have to produce results immediately. There is no allowing a show to "find" its audience. It's do or die, and unfortunately, sometimes it's dead on arrival.
