Leadership crisis averted for House Democrats?


The midterm shake-up in Congress is causing a few House Democrats to switch leadership roles. In a late-Friday-night decision, Nancy Pelosi announced that she wished to keep her leadership team intact, with Rep. Steny Hoyer to remain as her chief deputy. She endorsed James Clyburn, former House majority whip, for a newly created position, caucus chairman.

Hoyer and Clyburn are both seeking election to the House minority whip position, which ranks second after Pelosi, in the next Congress. House Democrats will vote on Wednesday.
