News Corp.'s Rupert Murdoch Supports Path to Citizenship for 'Illegal Immigrants'

The media mogul takes heat from Democrats over the conflict between his personal views and those of Fox News.

News Corp.'s Rupert Murdoch

Media mogul Rupert Murdoch appeared before a House Judiciary Committee panel yesterday to convince lawmakers that an immigration overhaul, including a path to citizenship for "illegal immigrants," is a necessity for the economy. Democrats took the time to pummel Murdoch for his conflicting personal views and the views of his media properties like Fox News and The Wall Street Journal. Rep. Linda Sanchez of California asked Murdoch how he feels about the "anti-immigrant positions" promoted on Fox. Rep. Maxine Waters of California questioned why Murdoch hasn't done more to promote his views through his various news outlets, which include the Journal. Rep. Lamar Smith of Texas defended Murdoch, saying that most Americans believe Fox News is the most "fair" news on television. Murdoch said that he was there as a businessman. So the spread of fear, hate and anti-immigrant sentiment is just business. Duly noted.
